‘Farm Bill Now’ Rallies at Farm Progress Show

August 29, 2012 - Farm Bureau Newsroom

The 46 groups working together as the Farm Bill Now coalition recently held their first event as a united front. On Tuesday, at the Farm Progress Show outside of Boone, Iowa, the agriculture organizations again called on Congress to pass a comprehensive, five-year farm bill before the current one expires on Sept. 30.

Noting that the Senate took only three days to finalize its farm bill, Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill said the House of Representatives’ meager eight scheduled working days before the election are no excuse for leaving farmers and ranchers high and dry.

Hill said he believes lawmakers can work out the differences between the Senate-passed farm bill and the legislation approved by the House Agriculture Committee and create a bill that can be approved by both chambers.
