The president essentially kick-started the delayed debate on the national transportation bill, which expired last year but has been extended on an interim basis. It has put Oregonians to work and improved freight and passenger traffic flows around the state. Theoretically, it would moderate some of the pork-barrel politicking that authorizes bridges to nowhere.
