Stallman Talks About Consumer Engagement

January 8, 2013 - AFBF Newsroom

While visiting Pennsylvania earlier this week, American Farm Bureau Federation President Bob Stallman talked about the need for farmers and consumers to have more meaningful engagement with one another. “Farmers know what they do to keep food safe and they assume everyone else knows, too,” said Stallman. “There is an effort needed to bridge the information gap between producers and consumers.”

Speaking at the opening of the Pennsylvania Farm Show’s “Today’s Agriculture” exhibit, Stallman continued, “Farmers need to learn to communicate the basics of what we do so that consumers feel good about their choices.”

“For too long, we have not told our story on how food is produced,” continued Pennsylvania Farm Bureau President Carl Shaffer, also at the event. “Food safety is job number one and consumers need to understand that we do pay attention to that as farmers and ranchers.”
